Giving Back This Holiday Season: Honoring a Veteran Through Community Partnership
At Family Friend Roofing & Construction, we believe that taking care of our community goes far beyond roofing. This holiday season, we were honored to partner with Matt Maples and USA Cares, a veteran organization whose mission is to prevent veteran suicide and provide critical support to those who have served our country.
Through this partnership, we had the privilege of providing a new roof to Rico Gonzalez, a highly respected war veteran, and his wife, Rosemary, as a way to give back during the holidays.
Honoring a Life of Service
Rico’s story is one of dedication, sacrifice, and service. He served our country honorably for over 30 years in the military, followed by another 30 years as a teacher, shaping lives both on and off the battlefield. Today, Rico is recovering from a service-related injury that has limited his ability to walk, making everyday tasks more challenging.
Providing Rico and Rosemary with a safe, secure home was a meaningful way for our team, and our partners, to show appreciation for a lifetime of service.
A True Community Effort
This project was only possible through the generosity and teamwork of several incredible partners who stepped up to make a difference:
- USA Cares, led by Matt Maples, for connecting us with this meaningful opportunity and continuing their vital mission to support veterans
- ABC Supply, whose support and coordination were instrumental
- CertainTeed Saint-Gobain, for providing the roofing materials that made this project possible
- T4 Outdoor Solutions, who donated their time and expertise to take care of Rico’s yard and landscaping
- Kyle, Branch Manager at ABC Supply, who helped arrange professional power washing of Rico’s driveway to complete the transformation
Each partner played a vital role in turning this project into something truly special.
More Than a Roof
This project wasn’t just about installing shingles, it was about restoring comfort, dignity, and confidence. Knowing that Rico and Rosemary can enjoy the holidays in a home that is protected and cared for means more to us than we can put into words.
Grateful to Serve Those Who Served
We are deeply grateful to Rico for his decades of service and sacrifice, and we’re honored to play a small part in giving back. Projects like this remind us why strong community partnerships matter and how powerful it can be when local businesses come together for a greater purpose.
From all of us at Family Friend Roofing & Construction, thank you to everyone who helped make this project possible, and thank you to all veterans who have served our country.
